If you’re not yet on the raw buckwheat porridge bandwagon, it’s about to change.
When soaked overnight and blended with a frozen banana, berries and a superfood powder boost, the gluten-free buckwheat plant (not grain!) makes a perfectly creamy, nutritious and satisfying breakfast. Pop your buckwheat porridge into a container and top with berries, and you have a breakfast you can have at your desk or to restore after a workout.
What’s in it for you?
Raw buckwheat is an incredible source of easily digestible protein (13.3 g per 100 g!), fiber, and vitamins (iron, manganese and magnesium are among them). Buckwheat helps to control blood sugar, supports heart health, and is non-allergenic.
One of my favorite recent discoveries that’s become a staple in buckwheat porridge is raw dried berries that come in powdered form. A super convenient solution for winter, when berries are out of season. One teaspoon of raw dried berry powder is equal to a handful of fresh berries, and because of gentle freezing is loaded with vitamins, antioxidants and nutrients.
I’ve been adding them to all kinds of breakfasts from smoothies to warm oatmeal bowls, and turmeric latte (the sea buckthorn turmeric latte!). I’ve also been bringing pouches with small amounts of berry powders with me on trips for an easy breakfast topping solution.
Having grown up with a garden in the backyard of our country house outside Moscow, I love and miss the real flavors of wild berries like black and red currants and sea buckthorn.

Raw Buckwheat Porridge Recipe
(makes 2-3 servings)
- 1 cup hulled buckwheat groats + water for soaking
- 1 cup almond milk (or nut/seed milk of choice)
- 2 tablespoons Arctic Power Berries Blackcurrant Powder
- 1-2 frozen bananas (depending on how sweet you like it)
- 2 tbsp. peanut butter (or try almond butter!)
- 1-2 scoops Sprout Living Vanilla Lucuma Plant-Based Protein (optional, extra protein & yumminess)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder (optional)
Toppings (get creative!)
Chopped mango, raspberries, coconut shreds, toasted buckwheat, and another sprinkle of Blackcurrant Powder.
- Place the buckwheat groats into a mason jar and cover with filtered water.
- Soak for 1 hour to overnight.
- Drain and rinse the groats well in a strainer.
- Blend groats with the rest of the ingredients until creamy.
- Add toppings.
- Enjoy with love!
