Dear brekkie lovers, I’m so excited to be expanding the Breakfast Criminals “gang”! First with no-BS health series with Klara Mudge of Both Sides Buttered, and now with Anna Speaks of Windy City Organics.

Instead of hate we spread love, superfoods, raw chocolate, drizzly nut butters and heart bowls!

In this installment, please meet Anna–the wiz behind all things SunBiotics (truffle sprouted almonds!), Rawmio (healthy raw nutella!) and Dastony (creamy cashew butter!). I’ve been working with Anna for a few years now, and she’s one of those people who just has a certain light about her–a kindness that transcends cyberspace. She’s one holistic mama to watch!

Anna Rose Speaks Windy City Organics

A little bit about me…

“My name is Anna Speaks, and I’m a nature, movement, and superfood-loving mama based out of Portland, Oregon. An early interest and passion for all things raw food, diet and health related lead me on a journey at 16 to the Tree of Life Center in Patagonia, AZ. Yep, my idea of being adventurous as a teen was eating 100% raw foods, doing yoga, and green juice cleansing in the middle of the desert.

It was here that I ultimately met Alex Malinsky, founder of Windy City Organics and RawGuru. Our friendship was instantaneous and I now fill several roles at Windy City Organics, including heading all social media and marketing initiatives, while raising my beautiful son Atlas.

I feel blessed to be able to share the products that I love, connect with other beautiful souls, and contribute my part towards creating a better world full of empowered, health-conscious individuals living life with focus, intent, and passion.”

Why I’m into superfoods…

“I truly believe that when you start incorporating more superfoods (high nutrient density foods) into your diet, you change yourself on a cellular level. It’s like a software upgrade. Things run more smoothly, you have more energy, your brain works better, your moods are more stable, your hormones more balanced, and your immune system functions at its peak.

Superfoods won’t turn you into a superhuman, but by upgrading your fuel source, your body can THRIVE, not just survive.”

How I got my son Atlas into the superfood living…

“Atlas loves to be involved with everything I’m doing! I got him interested in green juices early on by letting him help me put the vegetables into the juicer. Like all kids, he loves sweet stuff, so blending superfoods and greens into fruit-based smoothies is always a hit.

However, let’s be real, he doesn’t eat superfoods at every meal and he certainly enjoys his fair share of “treats” (ahem, thanks, Daddy!) but I do the best I can to help encourage him to eat the good stuff everyday (he’s a Dastony nut butter fiend) and make healthy eating fun! But ultimately as a parent, it’s about balance, and knowing when to also let go. After all, food should be ENJOYED!”

A little bit about Windy City Organics little bit about WCO products used in it

“Windy City Organics is the industry leader for truly pure, organic, low temperature stone ground nut butters. We have 10 flavors all together! Our richly textured, silky smooth nut butters are pantry must-haves, especially for fall/winter. Their high levels of healthy fats, proteins, and minerals (such as zinc in our sprouted pumpkin seed butter) make them a great form of grounding nourishment during the colder season, and they are super versatile as well!

They’re perfect in dressings and sauces, drizzled over bowls, smoothies, and soups, and baked right into cookies and muffins. Adding a dash of immune boosting probiotics to your breakfast bowls during the fall and winter can help your body defend itself against the bug du jour–ensuring you spend less time feeling under the weather, and more time enjoying your life!”

What I love about the Berry Bright Smoothie Bowl…

“This smoothie bowl is perfect for those of us that aren’t QUITE ready to let go of summer, but still want to embrace fall. The addition of pear and citrus (instead of the usual banana) in this recipe lends a slightly less sweet flavor, and somehow gives it a more grounding feel while still tasting bright and fruity.

I’m obsessed with all things pumpkin right now, so of course I had to drizzle our amazing sprouted pumpkin seed butter from Dastony on top. It has been going on/in EVERYTHING lately!”
