Tara Stiles Make Your Own Rules

Last night I attended the launch of my “yoga mother” Tara Stiles‘ Make Your Own Rules Diet book at Strala Yoga in Soho. It was a fun, sweaty, dancy, high vibe event that brought together the incredible Strala family to celebrate the release of Tara’s most personal book yet.

Having recovered from an eating disorder, Tara is on a mission to help people of all ages and sizes realize that diet is about so much more than what we’re eating. As Tara writes on MindBodyGreenIt’s so much bigger than the rules and nutrition guidelines. It’s about how we’re feeling. How we feel about ourselves emotionally is the most important component in how we treat ourselves. I’m passionate about moving away from rigidity, no matter what the cause, and moving toward caring for ourselves and each other.”

I recently completed 200-hour yoga certification at Strala Yoga with Tara, and man has it been life-changing. I’ve never been the kind of girl who wants to be a yoga teacher, but after getting hooked on Strala, the “movement-based system that ignites freedom”, and realizing that when you create space on your mat, it carries over into all areas of your life,  I found a passion in sharing this expansive way of living with the world. Tara offers the same intuitive approach to eating… just the way I like it!

Tara’s the real deal: she embodies listening to yourself in all her being, and in person she’s the most grounded, sweet and glowing lady you’ll meet. Obviously, when I see someone like her, the question pops in my head: what does she eat? Well, Make Your Own Rules Diet has the answer. The book combines the no-nonsense approach that encourages you to listen to what feels right in your body instead of blindly following food fads (and man there are many of those!)

The recipes are supplemented by Tara’s very personal stories and yoga moves.

Tara believes that food-related issues actually come from anxiety and stress. Looking around in the food and lifestyle categories, there’s a lot of “This is what you should eat to be healthy” and “5 more things to do with kale,” while the question that Tara takes as her personal quest to answer is this: “How do I continue to feel better outside of yoga and meditation and eating healthy?”

Stiles manages to answer this loaded question in a fun and accessible way with Make Your Own Rules Diet.
