Beet It: Turmeric Beet Latte Recipe & Supplement Talk

I recently challenged myself to do a 14-day caffeine free challenge. I successfully completed it (woohoo!), even though it seemed impossible in the beginning.

Here’s what the challenge made me realize: once the caffeine cravings are gone, it’s not the caffeine that I’m attached to… but the nourishing morning ritual of a frothy warm drink.

So I got creative with nutrient dense, colorful caffeine-free elixirs. I’m talking golden turmeric milk, moringa elixirs and beet lattes. Fun fact: eating and drinking naturally bright colored foods, a.k.a. #eattherainbow, is often a guarantee of filling your body with antioxidant-rich, potent vitamins and minerals.

I believe in eating seasonally as much as possible, which means consuming colorful local fruits in the summer, and nourishing root vegetables in winter. Other ways to bring delicious colors into my life in winter are frozen fruits with no additives (like açaí and dragonfruit), and supplements.

In my experience, supplements are a great way to increase our healthspan and support our bodies in achieving the most optimal state. I personally use a multivitamin, fish oil, vitamin D/K2, iron and turmeric.

I highly recommend consulting a functional medicine doctor (I use Parsley Health) to help you come up with a customized supplement game plan.

If you want to start somewhere in the meantime, I’d go for an iron supplement, as low iron in women is a common concern. Some signs of low iron are fatigue, decreased focus and pale skin. Additionally, adding turmeric to your daily diet may help support healthy inflammation response after workouts or physical activity.*

Turmeric Beet Latte Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tspn. beet powder
  • 1/2 tspn. turmeric powder
  • 1.5 cups warm nut milk
  • 1 tspn. coconut butter
  • 1/2 tspn. honey or maple syrup
  • A sprinkle of nutmeg (optional)
