Taking a bath can be a lazy way of taking a shower, or a sacred process of relaxation and renewal that does wonders for your body and mind. It’s all about how you see it.

I once did a workshop with Elena Brower and David Harshada Wagner in which the calm, empowered and beautifully feminine Elena talked about the importance of having daily rituals that recenter, recharge and ground you.

The one she shared with us was a daily hot bath. After that, I never saw taking baths the same way. If a powerhouse yoga and meditation teacher relies on this simple ritual, so can I!

Before you can go out in the world and share the love, you should first give it to yourself, and simple self-care rituals like taking a bath are the perfect way to do it.

The ONE way to reap the most benefits from a hot bath is to surround it with ritual. Think journaling before or after the bath, clearing the space with sage before soaking, reading your favorite book or reciting mantras in the bath, and burning a candle. I also love bringing a good old Deepak meditation to the bath. ;)

There’s one more thing that takes the whole experience to a whole new level: essential oils. I’ve been playing with my own essential oil combinations and with adding them to my bath–it changes the mood in an instant.

The coolest thing is that you don’t have to get crafty with what you soak in–you can buy smart pre-made blends that combine marine salt with pure essential oils (and sometimes clay). My new favorite is Aura Cacia “Clear” Body Soak with eucalyptus, ylang ylang, green clay and bamboo extract. I soaked in it when I felt a bit run down, and my energy came back!

To celebrate the sacred bath ritual, I’ve paired each of Aura Cacia’s four body soaks with a recipe, a talisman, and a #TruthBomb affirmation for a complete day of spa-worthy indulgence at home!

The more relaxed you are, the more aliveness you can feel.

Cleanse Body Soak with Tea Tree and Tangerine

Affirmation: Your body knows before your mind does.

Talisman: Sage

Recipe: Matcha latte.

Directions: make matcha tea like you normally would with nut milk or hot water and a splash of nut milk. To sweeten, try adding 1 teaspoon mesquite superfood in place of your usual sweetener. The result is a delicious, antioxidant tonic.

Besides mind clarity and total body relaxation, taking hot baths with salts is wonderful for better sleep and nourishing your skin.

Remember to drink lots of water after taking a bath to stay hydrated (hot water with lemon does wonders!), and get even better benefits from moisturizing by applying your favorite cream or body oil right after a bath.
